London, UK – 10 May 2026
Bosnia and Herzegovina Community Advice Centre (BHCAC) was pleased to host a special poetry evening on 9 May 2026 at its premises in Willesden Green, London, bringing together members of the community for an evening dedicated to literature, culture and shared identity.
The evening was organised to honour Semira and Meho Jakupović, recipients of the Udruženje za kulturu – Nova svjetlost (KNS) Golden Plaque for Poetry 2025, in recognition of their continued contribution to poetry and cultural life within the British Bosnian community.
The programme featured poetry readings by the award recipients, alongside contributions from Zaim Pašić, Chair of BHCAC, and Chief Imam Sedin ef. Šahman, whose reflections added depth and meaning to the evening. A notable highlight was the presentation of poems from the collection Bosnoljublje, which includes works by three members of the Jakupović family, reflecting a rich intergenerational literary expression.
The evening was further enriched by the contribution of Sandra Saldanha, a poet and member of BHCAC, whose participation reflected the Centre’s inclusive spirit and openness to diverse voices within a shared community space.
Throughout the programme, themes of belonging, identity, memory, peace, and human connection resonated strongly with those in attendance, reaffirming the role of poetry as a powerful medium for dialogue and collective reflection.
The event concluded with expressions of appreciation on behalf of BHCAC, recognising all contributors for their participation and continued engagement in community cultural life. Informal conversation continued in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
BHCAC remains proud to provide a space where cultural activity can flourish and where members of the British Bosnian community, alongside the wider Brent community, come together to share creativity, experiences, and dialogue. Events such as this reflect BHCAC’s ongoing commitment to cultural heritage, community cohesion, and mutual understanding.
