Introduction to Bosnian History, Culture & Heritage | Session 1
Saturday 16 May 2026
16:00 to 18:00
BHCAC warmly invites BBYL members to the first foundation session of a one‑year journey exploring Bosnia’s history, culture and shared heritage.
Whether you’re reconnecting with your roots or discovering them for the first time, this session offers a relaxed, engaging way to understand where Bosnia begins—and why that story still matters today.
Foundation question: Where does Bosnia begin?
This opening session introduces Bosnia’s deep historical roots—from geography and medieval statehood to centuries‑old traditions of coexistence. Expect clear explanations, visual examples, and space for discussion.
What We’ll Explore
- Bosnia’s regions: Bosna, Hercegovina, Krajina, Podrinje and the Sandžak connection
- Illyrians, the medieval Bosnian state, and stećci (UNESCO medieval tombstones)
- Symbols of identity: the coat of arms and the medieval Bosnian Church
- Early coexistence of Catholics, Orthodox Christians, Jews and Bosnian Christians
Why This Session Matters
- Helps you build a confident, grounded understanding of Bosnian identity
- Shows Bosnia’s long‑standing presence as a distinct historical entity
- Highlights multiculturalism as a historical reality, not a modern idea
Social Activity, Quiz & Prizes
We’ll end the session with a relaxed social element designed to keep things light and interactive:
- Quiz: 10–15 minutes
- Marking: 5 minutes
- Prize giving: 5 minutes
A great chance to connect, test your knowledge, and enjoy a bit of friendly competition—with prizes for participants.
